BACH takes pride in rendering positive results and impacting the lives of those who benefit from our services. We wanted to take this opportunity to share some of the success stories and testimonials of those individuals we serve.
Rashard Spruell is a Patient Transporter in the Phase I PACU department at Mercy Medical Center. After speaking with his school counselor during his sophomore year, Rashard choose to participate in the Surgical Tech program. This decision afforded him the opportunity to become enrolled in the BACH Program. Rashard was a Fellow in the BACH Program from 2010 through 2012. He began his BACH Internship in the Pharmacy Department. He volunteered in the PACU the first half of his senior year. For the last part of his senior year, he was able to continue his work in PACU and be paid through a Baltimore City School System grant. He graduated from Edmondson Westside Skill Center in 2012. After graduation, Rashard was encouraged to apply for a job in the Patient Transport department at Mercy. He accepted the position as a Patient Transporter in the Phase 1 PACU in December of 2012, and since then has been a full-time member of the PACU staff. The staff in the PACU unit were impressed by his willingness to learn and his ability to quickly quickness assimilate new information. He has shown an incredible work ethic and is a wonderful coworker.
As several of his family members are healthcare workers, Rashard’s goal is to be in the healthcare field. His career goal is to become an RN, PA or surgeon. His dream to become a surgeon was inspired by working in the OR at Mercy. His mom, along with some of the nurses with whom he works, are instrumental to Rashard with helping him to decide which healthcare path to pursue. The BACH program has given Rashard the opportunity to pursue his career goals in the medical field. He is currently enrolled in a nursing program at Baltimore City Community College.
