BACH Seeks Workforce Development Specialist

The Baltimore Alliance for Careers in Healthcare (BACH) is a nonprofit organization that addresses unemployment, underemployment, and healthcare workforce shortages in the Baltimore region by identifying healthcare career pathways and connecting residents to skilled jobs, leading to economic independence. As a workforce intermediary, we accomplish this by working with local agencies, organizations, and healthcare institutions to create opportunities for residents to pursue careers in health professions.

Position Summary:
The Work Development Specialist is a trained, caring professional who aids participants for employment, ensuring job readiness, in addition to assisting employers in establishing job requirements needed for position openings.

Tasks and Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Serves as a coach and advisor to employees who are seeking employment and advancement:
    • Develops individual, specific, attainable goals and methods that enable clients to achieve assessment, adjustment, and/or employment goals.
    • Meet with employer partners to determine workforce needs.
    • Develops a working relationship with the supervisors of program participants.
    • Educate managers/supervisors and community partners about advancement and retention programs.
    • Assist program participants with identifying and removing barriers to success by providing external and internal resources and support systems.
    • Connects employees to training programs and job advancement opportunities designed to meet workforce demands.
    • Creates and maintains information on the various career-training options available for the entry level worker, including information on schools and certification programs on the various career-training options available for the entry level worker.
    • Provide career maps as tools for program participants to navigate various career options, particularly within the field of healthcare.
  1. Facilitates and coordinates advancement and retention workshops.
  2. Attends and participates in in-service training and monthly meetings for professional growth, development, and support.
  3. Utilizes in house database (ETO) to record and monitor participant progress, maintain detailed case records and notes.
  4. Maintains case records and prepare progress notes.
  5. Monitors and reports client progressions utilizing Efforts to Outcomes (ETO).
  6. Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  1. A baccalaureate degree in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Human Resources, Education or equivalent from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience is required. Working knowledge of theory and practice within a specialized health care field preferred.
  2. A minimum of three year of professional workforce development experience is required.
  3. Organizational skills, record keeping skills and time management skills required.
  4. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other software preferred. Experience with ETO software a plus.
  5. Counseling skills and case management experience.
  6. Effective verbal, oral presentation, written communication, listening and interpersonal skills.
  7. Ability to multi-task and conform to new work environments as needed to meet with clients.
  8. Valid Driver’s license and access to motor vehicle for travel to multi-sites.
