Geri’s Story

Taking the Next Step in Her Career

Geri worked as a Central Sterile Processing (CSP) Tech at University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) before being selected for BACH’s Surgical Technologist Apprenticeship at UMMS. As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Geri came to UMMS from Sinai Hospital, where she worked as a Patient Care Associate.

One of the successful components of the apprenticeship program is that it goes hand in hand with the CSP instruction and education. “The education that I received from CSP educators prior to the program helped me in my studies, knowledge of instruments, and the process of sterilization,” Geri explains. The program has helped her enhance her skills to become an exceptional Surgical Technologist and prepare her for the operating room.

“This apprenticeship has been the steppingstone for me to further my career in healthcare,” says Geri. The increase in salary has been extremely helpful and a great motivator as well.

With the support of a BACH coach and BACH’s education partner, CCBC, Geri has sharpened her study skills and test-taking strategies as she prepares for the national certification exam.

We wish Geri the best of luck in completing this last step in her apprenticeship journey!
